Diane Young / Step
BBC Radio 1 did a world premiere of Vampire Weekend’s new double A-side single “Diane Young / Step” earlier this afternoon. Diane Young leaked on Tumblr about two and a half hours beforehand, where I first heard it.
This song is amazing and I’ve been listening to it on repeat ever since I got home from school. It’s definitely one of the crazier Vampire Weekend tracks!
“Step” is a grower, but it is certainly beautiful (especially the beloved harpsichord!). The lyrics are wonderful as well as the footage of New York City, Vampire Weekend’s hometown, as shown in the official lyrics video below.
I’m most eager to hear Angel Deradoorian’s voice featured on Modern Vampires of the City, set for release May 14.
LP (2009)
In 2009, she recorded the track “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend” with Vampire Weekend keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot vocalist Wes Miles on their Discovery album LP, which you can listen to on Discovery’s website.
“It really does feel like the third chapter in a book. We created some characters on the first record, some of which are real people, some of which are ourselves, so it’s not so hard to keep following them and see what their concerns are now and how their lives have changed.”
