Favorite Songs of 2013
Although 2013 isn’t over yet, I’d like to share my favorite songs of the year so far.
Step
With sharply observed lyrics directed towards an audience of millennials, Vampire Weekend’s “Step” is absolutely my favorite song of 2013. The lyrics video featuring scenes of New York City is equally as impressive and gorgeous as the band’s song.
The Wire
“It’s my mission to make sure that people can hear their musical training and roots and influences from an early age,” producer Ariel Rechtshaid said of Haim, one of the most hyped bands of 2013. It’s easy to get hooked on the catchiest rock song from this summer.

Leather Jacket II
Raunchy, brash and definitely American indie rock that’s just as fulfilling as Deerhunter’s previous releases. The riffs on this track are insane and spectacular.
Mean Streets
Same great Tennis sound, refined with a touch of pop melody—“Mean Streets” is a true indie production. You can’t frown while hearing the crisp drums, satisfying bass and delightful lyricism on this piano-driven track.
I Can Hardly Make You Mine
Developed with fuzzy guitars and distorted organs, this Cults track is pure joy. Breaking up or growing up: it’s all about optimism in the face of adversity.
Artists I’m looking for in 2014:
Rostam, Discovery, The Drums, Jamie xx
