No Joy
No Joy dropped their new song “Here Tarot Lies” last week and it’s really good.
The Montreal, Canada shoegazing band also has a single from February, “Lunar Phobia”, which I listened to recently.
Both of these tracks were recorded in an actual, full-furnished studio, so the sound is really accessible and quite unique. The drums on “Here Tarot Lies” are spectacular!

“Lunar Phobia”:
It’s pretty difficult to understand the lyrics on these two tracks, but that’s not the point—shoegazing music is meant for introspection.
The album artwork for these singles are incredible. I love the plain, pastel colors in the background!
I don’t often listen to the shoegazing subgenre of alternative rock, but some of the bands I do like have elements of it in their music.
For instance, Wild Nothing has a song from their new album Nocturne, “Only Heather”, which has shoegazing guitar effects. Listen:
Real Estate’s 2011 release, Days, is also filled with lots of melodies ideal for driving or daydreaming.
Check out the catchy, warm “It’s Real”:
These songs are reminders that life should be taken easy, calm, and worry-free.
No Joy’s upcoming album, Wait to Pleasure, is out April 23 on Mexican Summer.
