October Mix
I love driving and listening to music, so I always enjoy the process of making mix CDs for my car (I don’t have an AUX jack). Because of the space limitations of CDs, it forces you to be creative in your song selections.
Additionally, because my Mac doesn’t have a disc drive, I have to wait until I get to my home computer to make my mixes, which is usually once every couple of months or so. I burn copies of favorite albums I am currently listening to, as well as a mix CD of tracks on rotation (including pop, indie, hip-hop, and electronic).
Although I frequently make CDs for friends and my own personal listening, I’ve never shared the track lists publicly. I thought it would be an interesting idea to publish what I’m burning plus my commentary, simply to document my ephemeral music playlists for the enjoyment of others.
So, here’s some awesome music from my current driving mix (October 2015):
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Can’t Keep Checking My Phone

UMO makes soulful, psychedelic alternative music that’s new and strange yet intriguing. After discovering the irresistible “Multi-Love”, I watched the video for their song “Can’t Keep Checking My Phone” and really enjoyed the music and visuals.
Disclosure ft. Lorde - Magnets

This is a relatively recent song from Disclosure’s new album that features “Royals” pop breakthrough Lorde. It has hazy, washed-over synths, compelling pop/R&B hooks, and a super fun, dance-able rhythm, but I’m most excited about the return of Lorde to the music scene.
CHVRCHES - Clearest Blue

CHVRCHES’ latest album is massive-sounding, emotional electro-pop goodness. “Clearest Blue” highlights lead singer Lauren Mayberry’s stunning vocals riding on top of attacking synths and electronic drums.
Deerhunter - Breaker

Deerhunter’s seventh studio album comes out this month, and their recently-shared song “Breaker” sounds like wrapping yourself up in a big warm indie rock blanket. If you aren’t familiar with the band, Deerhunter merges experimental noise and soundscapes with pop melodies to create very remarkable music at the forefront of their genre. This video, directed by frontman Bradford Cox, is also fantastic.
Beach House - Levitation

Dream-pop music from Beach House is always breathtaking. Their latest album _Depression Cherry _is such a treat, and the first track is my favorite. The song also may be one of my top 5 Beach House favorites! Listen to the stream above.
