‘Pushing Hoops With Sticks’, A New Pop Culture Podcast
Music culture is something that’s really important to me. So when I heard Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend was on a podcast about pop culture and America, I had to listen.
After hearing the hour-long first episode of “Pushing Hoops With Sticks”, I was thoroughly entertained. Although it is quite a lengthy bit of listening for someone who’s used to digesting audio in song or album-sized pieces, host Ayesha Siddiqi and guest Ezra Koenig make for a highly interesting discussion that really begs for you to listen and think.
The discussion in this episode centered on a variety of truly compelling and brain-captivating topics for the avid music and culture fan, including prep, appropriation, class, race, and more. In particular, I loved hearing the bits and segments about Kanye (who was brought up a few times), and pop culture. From a younger generation’s standpoint, I do feel that Kanye as well as other hip-hop artists are creating deeply progressive, dynamic, and innovative music.
Ayesha and Ezra both believe that we’re currently living in the best pop culture moment. I admire their shared optimism and couldn’t agree more about the idea, because there’s no time I’d rather be in than the present!
