The Drums - Magic Mountain (New Track Stream)
The Drums are back with a new single streaming today off their upcoming album Encyclopedia, out this fall. The Brooklyn, New York indie band will also debut three new songs live tomorrow on a rooftop in Times Square.
This is the first new music we’ve heard from the band in three years, so it’s pretty exciting to see how their sound has changed as well as remained similar. I have followed the band since their Summertime! EP and the flurry of recent news surrounding the band has me feeling so happy!
The self-titled track that debuted this morning is slightly punk-infused and filled with raw, seriously aggressive energy. It’s fun, too, and deserves to be played loud.
Jonny Pierce’s vocals on “Magic Mountain” are infectious and dripping with a rebellious and cool attitude. Although the songwriting on this track sounds more pop-punk (think Wavves) than previous Drums songs, this track is definitely indie and includes the fast-paced rhythm and production we’ve come to love with some of the band’s older music.
Thrilling elements of new, unique sounds and twists never taken before add to the rollercoaster-like repeat value on this track and make me want to hear more. Alongside a slew of 2014 tour dates, expect an album release sometime this fall and an official “Magic Mountain” single for purchase soon.
It’s safe to say The Drums are undeniably back, and that’s a statement in and of itself.
