RISD President: We Need More Boredom in Our Lives
This article is from May but the topic couldn’t be more relevant to today’s art and design students. I feel that we could all use a break from our phones and digital tech every once in a while!

The xx - On Hold
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_oA9UmRd4I?rel=
Jamie xx has an apparent influence on this new track by The xx, but don’t fret—the song is unmistakably by the band. With powered-up confidence in both lyrics and sound, “On Hold” demonstrates that calculated risks are often worthwhile.

The new cool: how Kamasi, Kendrick and co gave jazz a new groove
Fantastic article on the reinvention of jazz music and its interaction between today’s hip-hop artists.
“When I first played some Coltrane-type stuff on the Pimp a Butterfly sessions, Kendrick got it immediately. ‘I want it to sound like it’s on fire,’ he’d say. That’s the kind of common ground that the best jazz and the best hip-hop have.”

Deerhunter at Musica 10/22
Although I love music, I don’t attend very many live shows. I thought I would treat myself to seeing one of my favorite bands perform live at Musica in downtown Akron. The show was great, and my front row spot gained me access to a photo of the setlist, which was cool! I had never heard the opening acts before, and they were quite different from the main act and really breathtaking. Deerhunter was exhilarating, and it was worth it despite my ears ringing for the next couple of days!
