Everything Easy is Hard Again by Frank Chimero
This essay by Frank Chimero is the smartest thing I’ve read about the web recently. In it, he argues “the web needs pockets of slowness and thoughtfulness as its reach and power continues to increase.” I found it fascinating to read his early experiences of learning how to write markup by reading it. As someone who is passionate about all things web, I hope that this essay inspires the current generation of web designers and developers to keep their work legible for younger designers like myself to learn.

Just found this terrific logo animation and showreel for an animation studio in London called Moth. I love the contemporary, hand-drawn style of their work! Their website states, “Often taking complex or difficult subjects and portraying them in imaginative ways, Moth strives to create vivid work that retains an intelligent and distinct style whether for commercial clients, editorial pieces or short films.”

Dropmark
Last semester I discovered a visual organization platform called Dropmark. Created by Oak, an independent design-led product studio in Brooklyn, New York, Dropmark is my go-to way to collect images and inspiration for my projects at school. Similar to Pinterest, you can create collections, but it goes even further because you can store links and files, too, with source information and even stacks within collections.
There are also features for searching, tagging, and adding directly from your browser or Mac menubar. The product is clean, functional, and incredibly useful for designers of all types. If you have a minute, check out their website and see for yourself how you can integrate it into your workflow.
